honey at $44 a lb!
« on: March 05, 2013, 11:25:36 am »
In europe specialty honey is highly respected by consumers who will pay a premium.

Here is an excerpt from an article on urban rooftop hives, these on the rooftop of the Paris Opera House! I've seen this guy in a youtube but can't find it now (he referred to the pesticide disaster in France) I'd appreciate the link if anyone can find it :)

I had to do the math on 1000 lbs at 44 bucks per and 5 hives labor!

hmmmm .... maybe if I buy an Opera house ....

André Lemaire, a beekeeping instructor at the Jardin du Luxembourg, says of the city bees: “They can go
to work earlier in the morning and return later at night,” and are two to three times more productive than their rural
kin. That may account for Paucton’s harvest, which he says is over 200 pounds of honey from each of his five
hives. Even at that, he cannot keep up with the demand for his intensely floral “Opera Honey,” which is sold in the
opera shop and Fauchon’s, the famous food emporium, at US$12 for a 125 gram jar -- less than 4.5 ounces (which
comes to about $44 a pound). But the great reward for Paucton is that beekeeping has taught him: “I was a bit hot
tempered, but I’ve learned respect and calm and patience.

Here is the link to the article. Wish there was an Opera house in town. Maybe I could put a hive at the top of the CN Tower?

At $44 per pound I'm having trouble coming up with a place I wouldn't want to put them.

Now that you mention it, I haven't seen many Canadian cents in my pockets for a while!

I just figured they were all getting held up by the boarder patrol

Wow Edward,

Thats pretty good works out to about $10 to $12 dollars a pound. Thats better than the $8 a pound we get around here. That is assuming a kilo is around 2.5lbs.  :)

David

ps. But I do live in the country away from the city. Who know what I could get downtown.  :)

The worst is over  :rainbowflower: today the sun rose 06.33 and set at 17.30 :rainbowflower:

Its a little less than 2 weeks to the equinox when day and night are the same length, this far north the light lingers longer after the sun goes down so the day are a little longer than sun rise sun set.

Things are a little easier when the days are longer, soon my bees will bee flying again and even my spirits when I can finally visit them again,  :-D one of the hardest things is I miss my bees in the winter months and beeing surrounded buy nature and green fields.  :rainbowflower:

WHOOOHOOOOOW  :-D

Wow!!!

I thought it would be much different than here.

Sunrise 6:58, Sunset 6:38

It seems from my limited knowledge that the languages of Denmark, Norway and Sweden are similar. Is this true? And even though I am sure there a some differences can you understand each other when each is speaking in their native languages?  Just curious.

Thanks you

David

Swedish and Norwegian are almost the same , Danish takes a little more concentration.
Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark have fought and moved borders a lot depending on who was stronger, but nowadays we are good neighbors and have had many years of treaties and trade.

Finish is a Slavic language and is not the same, but they have had Swedish as a second language and many Finn's can speak Swedish, They may have been forced to learn it in school, but I would think that they now prioritize English, and may bee Russian now that they have woken from there red sleep.

Sweden is a long country so the temperatures and winter vary, my sister lives in the north and has the midnight sun.
Many hours for the bees to fly and forage nectar  :-D

We have not only a Loonie ... but also a toonie! This week our canadian dollar started to move down against foreign currencies including The American Buck. I think it opened today at $100 canadian = $97 American. BUT ... bought a cooler at walmart in New Hampshire last year was $39.99 NO TAX! Same (almost) cooler here was $69.99 PLUS 13% = $79.89!!!  I say "Live Free Or Die"!
