New beek wannabe(e?) in California Sierra Foothills

Hey there - just recently started researching into beekeeping and learning everything I can before taking the plunge (probably next spring).

We live on fives acres in a very rural area of the Sierra foothills of California west of Lake Tahoe, at about 2000' on an southeast facing slope with a very mild climate (usually only a few minor freezes each winter), so I'm hoping that will be a good place for bees. Right now the wild bees are busy with a large ivy plant I've got growing up my front deck - and they seem pretty healthy.

My current [vague] plan is to start a TBH and a Langs side by side and see what happens, but I'm open to suggestions. I don't have any plans to start a Honey Emporium any time soon - just want a bit of comb honey to munch on, and any wax by-products to play with - and of course, watch bees "doing their thing".

you are smart to learn before jumping in!  any chance you can find a beekeeper to work with, or maybe a club?  you are out there, so there may not be anything convenient, but Annette might be able to help point you in the right direction.

There's a group in Sacramento, but it'd be better if I can find a resource closer to home, since Sac and Garden Valley aren't necessarily similar. Still looking around.
