Heilyser vaporizer
« on: October 15, 2012, 10:14:25 am »
Howdy Folks:

I just received my vaporizer... heats up but doesn't melt the OA crystals. I mean hot to the touch! Tried with a battery and also a 35amp power supply. Interesting... only only draws 5 volts @ 3 amps.

Any ideas?

Check your electrical connectors to the unit. You won't be touching it when its starts to work properly. It will burn the skin off of you!

If I remember correctly, acid starts to react at around 300 degrees.

when I first got mine I had the same problem intermittently.  What it turned out being is a broken wire inside the insulation.

Ok it's definitely not that hot! I crimped and soldered the male connector that mates with the two females... maybe something came loose after I put it in my homemade PVC handle...

Another issue that just though of is the length of the zip cord (16 gauge). it's about 10 ft so I might need to shorten that. Curious on the length that others have...

10-15 foot when using lawn tractor battery should work. Make sure you stand up wind from the fumes.

Come on guys This isn't rocket science.  12 volts in the wire that runs down the side and is connected to the glow plug.  This is were mine was faulty.   The wire appeared to be in tack but was broken under the red wire insulation.  This caused it to work one time then not the next.  It also increased the burn time.  After replaceing that wire mine has worked problem free for 4 or 5 years.  A good ground on the wire connected to the handle and it will work unless you have a faulty glow plug.   Try hooking it direct to a battery with just one small jumper.  Dont fill th pot with oxalic maybe just alittle water.   It should boil in about 30 sec.    As for the zip cord I have 20 ft on mine so it reaches my truck battery at all yards

Have used cheap lamp extension chord to power the thing. No need for anything heavy gauge.
You are only powering one glo plug. Why the pvc handle?

what warranty?   When mine had a problem there responce was "well that never happened before"   You can buy a replacement glow plug from them for 35.00 plus shipping or you could run down the napa and buy a couple for about 15.00 plus no shipping.
As Terry said lamp cord is all that is needed.   Up until this year I used 20 ft of brown lamp cord but after getting wrapped up in it a few times I switched to orange 2 wire.

I think that the weak point is where you hook your power wire to the unit. There is a lot of flexing of the wire while moving from hive to hive. You have to cool the bowl down with a damp sponge or rag in between hives. If you add acid before cooling it will start to vapor before you can stick it into the entrance. Don't get the glow plug wet or you will short it out.
