Anxious to learn about beekeeping. I'm starting to research now for a spring 2014 start. We live in western NC and are enjoying every minute. Beekeeping is something that I've wanted to do for a long time and now it's time. Glad to be a part of the group!

Hey and welcome!

I am just starting this year. My hives arrive next Wednesday and packages of bees at the end of the month followed by 2 nucs the middle of next month.

The one thing I can tell you for next year is order you bees early and from a company or a person you have researched well.  If you don't order early you might not find bees when you need them. Also you local bee club might do an order so check with them.

To each his own, but the idea of beekeeping first entered my head on 10/24/2012, I got my first bees 1/12/2013 and the wait almost killed me.  :)

There's a lot to be said for a little baptism by fire.

Welcome to the forum, Kzotter.  Check into a local bee club and also bee classes.  Decide which hive, kind and size you want.  Lots are going to Langstroth 8 frame medium boxes for everything.  But you will need to think what best fits your needs as well as the bees.  You can jump in or read and watch videos, and talk to people here and local.  Good luck.

In June I will have had my bees for 1 year. Last June my buddy knocked on my back door and said I had 10 minutes to decide or his split would get requeened and moved out.

My bees seem to do best when I leave them alone and let them be bees :)

This forum is a wealth of experience. I especially love reading the old threads.

You're in the right place.

They are right. Sometimes it just best to jump into the deep end and go for it.

It was my wifes idea. She mentioned it in January and I get my hives this week.

And yes the wait in killing me.  I see everything blooming and feel like I am missing the boat.
