Hello from Eastern NC
« on: November 15, 2009, 11:50:51 am »
Hi. My main interest is gardens. Have noticed a lack of bees for the last few years in the garden. Along with the noticed lack of bees, and just been given 4 hives from an 'ol timer, this brings me here. Have a lot to learn in a short period of time. The old gent needs the hives moved by the time he moves, April 1st. Some of the hives are old, need repairs, was told some will need to be split come spring. The old timer will be helping aquaint me until that time. So...I'm here to learn...

welcome.  you are fortunate that there are members here from your area, so you will be able to get some area specific info.

probably not much to do with the bees right now, so a great time to catch up on your reading here and at the library.  also, see if there is a local bee club or store.  they often have beginner classes over the winter in preparation for new hives in spring.

Someone really ought to tell them that the world of Ayn Rand?s novel was not meant to be aspirational.

Cubbee, welcome to our forum, so wonderful that you have found us.  You are very fortunate to be given these four colonies.  As you know, your job over the winter is to learn how to work with them.  Lean on us, our forum has mountains of information, and mountains of members that are very willing to help new beekeepers (and seasoned ones too).  Stick around, this will be a place to make friends, tell stories, experiences and learn.  We love new members. Have that great, most wonderful day, health.  Cindi
