Title: 1st loss of the winter
Post by: rober on January 11, 2014, 02:22:19 pm
since it warmed up today I decided to install candy boards. 4 of 6 hives had good sized clusters. one was ok. the 6th hive was dead. the dead hive was looking iffee this fall. it looked like a combo of freezing & starving. hopefully the rest will make it.

Make sure to check for disease but in cases like that it is usually a queen died in my experience.  Tuck away that equipment wrapped tightly so the moths and beetles and mice can't get in.  You will have a hive that needs split so it doesn't swarm in a couple three months.
