Heavy Drinking

I have 2 hives and they took up 1/2 gallon of syrup in 3 hours,,,am I in a dearth.
How much should I have available for them.
These are my hives on Cape Cod Massachusetts

If you're feeding for winter stores, post harvest, feed until they backfill much of the brood chamber and begin to build burr comb.  The more stores for cold weather that 2 deeps can hold the better, I say.

Depends on what's blooming or not in your area but this time of yr its very possible.

It started just before the remnents of hurricane Hanna came though here and hasnt stopped.
So I'll keep it OPEN BAR  for the girls for now,,,thanks for your input

i been open feeding 1:1 and my 4 hives easily consume 4 gallons of syrup a day. I've noticed that the hives are getting heavier. I'm going to increase the sugar ratio with my next batch but I ran out of sugar for now. Sounds like a visit to Walmart is in order.

I tried that, but all I got was burr comb and a bunch of surly drones, so I switched back to syrup.

(My light hives are taking about two quarts of 1:1 per day.)
