I don't use the green drone frames, but occasionally I will come across a frame that has a big spot/section of mostly capped drone cells and i will pull that out and freeze it for mite control. Frequently that is buy itself in one of the top boxes/honey supers as I do not use a queen excluder.
But on the whole I believe in letting the girls make the amount of drone they think they need. They understand that better than I do.
But you might watch cause if a mated queen is producing way too much drone she could be getting old or poorly mated and in need of replacement (though, again, I usually allow the girls to know when the queen needs to be superceded.)
