Varooa mite control- Bt-Baccillus thuringiensus- Berliner
« on: January 26, 2005, 03:40:44 pm »
Hello,

I am from Ohio and am new to the beekeeping world. I have read that there is an organic product out called Bacillus thuringiensus- Berliner. This product works real well on varroa mites and controls them within 3-5 days.

It is a spore compound that you put on a piece of paper and install into the hive. This product they say is safe for humans.

Has anyone heard of this and if so please let me know. I would like to find a supplier in the United States so I can purchase some for my hives. I am planning on going organic when treating my hives.

Bacillus thuringiensus- Berliner

It is only effective on wax moths.  It is a bacteria.

I think you are looking for Metarhizium anisopliae.  It is a fungus.

It is not on the market.  It used to be as a Termite control, but it is no longer available.
