Date for package bees
« on: January 09, 2012, 06:34:46 am »
or correct, until when could be set-up a swarm with a package?
If the queen lays eggs in conjunction of the length of the days (hours of light), will  be a time in the year the swarm will not have time for a good preparation of winter.
I have to receive some packages, but I'm thinking in waiting for the next spring (here is summer now). Or could I dare?

I would think it would be better to wait until your area is having its spring.  Can you get bees locally?  Or is waiting not a possibility because you are having to order from a different climate?

The bees are locally, same clima. I'm worry it is to late, even if we are in subtropical clima. Our "winter" is really different, but the problem will be the queen. Shorter days => minus eggs!
Forraging is not a big problem, in march will come the eucaliptus flower.
