I don't know if this has already been posted but I recieved a promo from Dadant and they are doing free shipping on all orders (excludes west of the mississippi) for the month of December.
I know Brushy Mountain typically does this every year as well but I was not aware of Dadant doing it.
They are also having a "super sale" as well, looks like 10%off quite a bit of stuff, but is not applicable for internet orders.
-
Does anybody know if Brushy mnt is doing one this year?
-
kelly got one going -Nov 23-24-25 free shiping zones 1-4 with zones 5-9 reciveing 10% discount only-PROMO CODE lets talk turkey- 8-) RDY-B
-
I have checked the brushy mountain web sight specifically to search for such a program, and do not find any info about it, I also have been to dadant web sight, and see no reference to such an offer.
Is it common, that such offers are only made to specific type customers, and not made to every one. In my short career as a beekeeper, I have ordered from both brushy mtn. and dadant.
-
I don't know Lakeman, I have only ordered from Dadant a couple of times.
There are no promo codes listed for the shipping on the flyer they sent me but if you want the 10%discount on their foundation, frames, woodenware and extractors then the promo cold is SUPER SALE but you have to contact the offices in waverly NY, 1-877-532-3268
Chatham VA 1-800-220-8325 and Frankfort KY and order over the phone.
For the shipping it just says Free Shipping on All products December 1-31 (excluding glass containers, backordered items and orders west of the mississippi) I can't find any promo code so maybe when you order it just automatically takes the shipping off but I would contact them anyway and ask.
Maybe you have to do phone orders for that too.
Brushy Mountain has done free shipping every year in December, I got almost all of my equipment by ordering from them in December.
I had their monthly newsletter but deleted it, not sure if it said anything about the free shipping promo they do though.
-
This is great.
-

It is quite common for them not to show on their websites. Usually you will find the promo codes in their ads in Bee Culture and American Bee Journal.
Beeline has 10% off, if ordered by December 1st. I just ordered a bunch of nucs and a few hundred frames. They don't have a website, but I have attached their catalog if anyone is interested.

Do any of these companies ever do promos for beeks who live West of the Mississippi :?
-
Western Bee recently (last week) had a promo on hive boxes, hives and westerns. Might still be on.
SH
-
I guess all the bee keepers west of the Mississippi are being demographically descriminated against? Maybe we should just start ordering from companies who treat beekers equal? I will be researching their sales and discounts, and mainly what areas if any they apply in. Are there any other beekers west of the Miss. that feel the same way? We have a Dadant distributor less than 200 miles from Tulsa, and we have one of the largest members clubs in the nation.
-
I think all you WoM (West of Mississippi) beekeepers should call Dadant and other Co offering discounts to limited areas, and see if they can do the same for you? Some other companies I have bought from are Walter T. Kelley, Blue Sky, Mann Lake, Brushy Mtn, Rossman Apiaries and Glory Bee. I will be looking at other Co's for myself and our club. Where is Western Bee located? I guess I'll look for them now while I'm on this thinking machine.
-

It's all about the economics. Brushy Mountain is in North Carolina. Shipping cost go up the further you have to send it. I'm guessing the Mississippi is near the point that the shipping cost to them outweigh the benefit. If I understand the Kelley sale, it is not limited to those east of the Mississippi, but once again limited by distance from them (I don't qualify as I'm zone 5).
I'm not sure what Dadant's motivation is, maybe they are just going after the business that Brushy soaks up every year in December due to the free shipping.
You might not like it, but I can understand that these companies must limit the offering due to the shipping cost they incur. What you need to do is find some west coast bee supply places like Mann Lake and get them to pony up. Lets face it, when you are paying the shipping, you will give your business to a close supplier, so from a business stand point, there is not much gain for Brushy to expand their free offer and take a beating.
-
Dadant has supply companies in Paris, TX and Calif!!! Shipping and handling is most the cost. You would think a company would offer a percentage discount to everyone, and the shipping costs would be less the closer you are? We have our annual Bee Buzz coming up, and these questions will be brought up to the suppliers.
-
I agree with Robo, they do what they can to offer the free shipping promo without losing their shirts and its not like they owe anyone anything.
-
I priced a complete hive in July but canceled the order when the shipping was going to be $70!!! I'll wait until I either read about it in one of the bee magazines or else buy it from a local shop. I really like the wood ware from Brushy MT. and Dadant, so if there's free shipping anytime soon I'll wait.
-
I bought so much from Brushy last year during the month of December that I saved $400.00 in shipping.
I wait all year, keep a list of what I need and then buy it in December.
-

I hope Bill prints a copy of this out and keeps it in his wallet. It is an 11 month free pass......

:lau: Troublemaker.
-
Thanks for the heads up Natalie. Ann and I wanted to order from Brushy Mt. too but if their not going to offer free shipping this year we'll order from Dadant instead.
-
Anybody here call up Brushy Mt. or Dadant yet and ask them about free shipping specials this year? I've been busy working but will call them both tomorrow after work and ask them if nobody here replies.:I'll let you know what I find out. :chop: :chop:
-
I'm not to far from Dadant Albion and didn't get the flier, so I called, and the gentleman on the phone explained that it is NY, KY, and Virginia branches, but they are willing to ship to me from there, or ship out of Albion and transfer inventory or whatever they need to.
-

The fellow at dadant albion that I spoke with did mention that this was a reason.

Yea, brushy is opening up a new outlet in pa.

I am new to beekeeping, but I have ordered from dadant, I wonder why I have not gotten a notice of sale from them. What items have they discounted 10%, just here and there, all woodenware, or is there a pattern to it? if it does not apply to internet orders, I doubt if they have notice of it on line. Maybe they are being selective in who they are giving it to, (discrimination??).
-
I highly doubt its discrimination. What would the basis for their discrimination be? What could they possibly know about you?
When I order from them I don't get asked any type of questions, they know my name and my address, nothing else.
Do you regularly recieve their catalogs? Are you on their mailing list? If not then they obviously don't have you on their mass mailing lists and you would therefore not be recieving any communication from them.
They are discounting all kinds of things, the post card specifically mentioned woodenware and extractors but I didn't look into it.
I have everything I need at this point.
Greg I did call Brushy Mountain and at this point customer service tells me that they have absolutely no idea if they are going to do the shipping promo this year, the woman said that it has not been decided on yet but they are discussing maybe doing it for orders of over $100.00.
She said she has been getting lots of phone calls on it already.
She said they are not sure but they may do something on black Friday but to keep checking their websites.
She apologized but apparently has no idea at this point.
I wonder if its because they have spent so much money opening the new place in PA.
-

Bill, print this one out too :devilbanana:

You are gonna get it! :-D

Natalie, I was just wondering, since I have ordered from them, and I get their catalog, if by posibility they had a special customer list, or different classes of contacts, which is not uncommon in business. Some businesses have a prefered customer list, and other classes of customers, and some busineses send special sale notices just to customers they think would be interested in a particular item, or items.
I did go to their websight, and found their email address a couple of hours ago, and sent them an email asking for a copy of the flyer. Well, less than a half a day later I received the flyer by email, that is very good service, and I will give them a gold star, and so everyone, let me tell you they are not discriminating, and if anyone is interested in getting it, send me your email address, and I will forward it to you.

While many of these places have stores in locations west of Ole Mis, their supply warehouses are usually where the original stores or headquarters are. many of these seem to be east.
So, what you do is start a beekeeping supplies business with your main supply warehouse west of the river and take all their business away.
Better yet, come to a central part of the country with your warehouse and it's equal distance to both costs. Omaha, NE is a good place to put that warehouse. I'll help you if you want.

I did email Kelly and they told me I was in zone 5 so I only get 10% off.

Thanks Natalie. I meant to call them today but by the time I had a spare minute at work both places were closed. I need frames, assorted woodenware and foundation so whoever will give me free shipping I'll buy from them. :-D We didn't buy anything from Dadant this year so we may not be eligible for their free shipping special this year. We need over $100 worth of stuff so if Dadant can't help us we'll wait until Black Friday and see if Brushy Mt. can.
-
What do you need for frames and foundation?
I have close to a 100 sheets of medium foundation that came with the garden hives I got from Brushy Mountain this year and I don't use foundation.
I have some frames around too.
You should still be able to get the shipping from Dadant, I have the flyer and the code just says
"super sale".
I can always order it in my name too if it ends up being an issue with them. oops did I say that?

Let me know what you want for that foundation and I'll pay you for it. I'll call Dadant tomorrow if time permits and ask them if they'll give me free shipping. If they won't I'd love to take you up on your offer to add something onto your order. I'd like to start rotating out some of my brood chamber frames and get something better looking in there. Because of my old job and other challenges life has thrown at us the last few years we haven't been the best of beekeepers. Ann and I hope to make the needed improvements next season.

Western Bee Supplies are in Montana, you can find their web site using Google. The similarities between the pictures in their catalog and those offered by some larger suppliers suggest a common source for those particular items.

Whatever the story their boxes and frames go together just fine and the cost of shipping from them to the NW is less than from some more eastern competitors :-D

If I were to buy Dadant frames would I run into a problem using Brushy supers ? So far I haven't run into anyproblems with anything not fitting into them.

You shouldn't. I don't have any brushy supers, but do have some of their frames and they fit fine in my other boxes. Most frames are pretty standard, or at least close enough to not make a huge difference. I have about 6 different frame manufactures and have no problems.

Sorry about that, I did not see it in the Nov issues, (expecting to), and have not received any later issues. I thought I had read in one of them, that there would be no december issue, maybe I read that somewhere else. Has anyone received their Dec issues?

Greg I bought the sidebars and bottom bars from Dadant to make my foundationless frames and I have all Brushy Mountain supers and woodenware. I didn't have any problems at all fitting them.
See if Ann wants to trade some of her plant divisons or seeds for the foundation. I will give you the foundation (96 sheets of medium) for some of the cool stuff Ann has growing, I can't remember what she has from when I was there but whatever she needs to thin out.
I am always looking for stuff that I don't have yet.

Thank you for that very generous offer. I'll ask her what she has and we'll see if she has anything you'd be interested in.
ETA: She says she has lots of plant divisions from what you can choose from but it'll have to wait until spring. About two or three weeks ago you wouldn't believe all the stuff she just pulled and threw into the compose pile because she had so much of it. We can figure out something next time we get together Natalie.
-
Sounds great, I figured on spring anyway. I can't believe she threw all that good stuff away, isn't that always the way.
I thought this would be a better deal since I can always use plants and you won't have to spend so much money buying stuff from the supply companies, even if she didn't have any plants I would have just gave you the foundation anyway.
I have some assembled medium Brushy Mountain frames too but they are grooved and I know you use wedge but if you need them let me know.
-

Thanks for the offer of your frames but like you said we use only wedge. If you only saw what she threw away you'd die. I wanted to bring some of it up to Maine but she said some of it wouldn't like the soil conditions and cold climate. I remember thinking it was such a waste when I saw her just heaving it onto the compost pile. Must be the "Yankee" in me. :-D

Yikes what is wrong with that woman! :-D
Hey I got some meatbirds going to the processor down your way next month if you want to try one, nice cornish roasters.
-
Thanks Shane!

I'm with you Big Bear! Tulsa, OK would make another great central location for a bee supplier!! I know I could get help to make it happen. Tulsa is offering great benefits and discounts for new business'. Interest in beekeeping is exploding out of the seams around here. We have over 300 members just in our Tulsa club, with many more on waiting lists for our beekeeping classes. It would be great for beekeepers west of the Mississippi!

I have not received either new issue yet. But as I stated in a previous post, I thought I had read in one of the November journals, that there would be no december issue, maybe I read that somewhere else.
-

The Brushy Mt. website now has a feature where you can directly speak with an employee in real time. I asked a question about free shipping the other night and Shane was the one who answered the question. He said they WILL have the free shipping special this year and if you didn't see the ad you could use "SANTA BC" as the promotional code and you would get the free shipping. I imagine the ad will be in the December issue of both Bee Culture and American Bee Journal.

This was in the monthly newsletter sent this morning too.
Monthly Specials
CYBER MONDAY: Are you looking for that special something for that special someone? We have added a new section to our website called "Holiday Gift Ideas". You can get 10% off anything in this section on November 30th only. To receive the discount you must enter the following code into the promotion code field of your basket. The code is PCCM. This code is only valid for internet orders.
FREE SHIPPING: Once again we are offering free shipping on Cyber Monday (November 30). Some exceptions; no glass containers due to the excessive packing and care to ensure safe arrival, truck shipments, and orders must be over $100. Unfortunately, we can only extend the free shipping offer to shipments east of the Mississippi River. If you are west of the river, we will contact you with the correct shipping charges. If you use the same promotion code as above (PCCM). You will get the 10% on the special items and free shipping.
-
Just received my ABJ for December and Brushy Mountain has free shipping Dec. 1-18th (inside back cover). I didn't see anything from Dadant on free shipping.
-
I received responses from Dadant and Brushy Mtn, and it is a "Bah Hum Bug" to beekeepers west of the Mississippi! I guess I'll have to drive 200 miles to Paris, TX Dadant to get my free shipping. I also found out Western Bee Supplies is a branch of Dadant?

We have a summer home in So. Maine which is about a 2 1/2 - 3 hours one way drive from where the Humble Abode plant is. Their prices are pretty close but with the addition of the cost of gas it's much cheaper to have my order delivered right to my front door. I'd like to support a somewhat local business but can't afford that much of a difference.
-
the only other advice i can offer is find a loading dock you can borrow, and pool your orders with others and get truck shipments of pallets (or better yet, get enough bees to justify a pallet for yourself). i can't remember what truck shipment of a small pallet of woodenware from humble abodes cost in shipping (i think it was $150 to massachusetts for 100 deep boxes, 1000 frames, plus some 100 custom cut shims), but well worth it. we always buy their budget grade.

Thanks for the advice. I'm just a small timer so my order will only consist of : 200 frames, three 8 frame inner covers, six 8 frame medium supers, and 10 mouse guards as of now. Might buy some Mite-Away 2 but have to check to see what we have on hand.
ETA: I'm the PROUD owner of a new Porter-Cable compressor that will be used exclusively for making and/or assembling new bee equipment. Got a killer DEAL on it from Home Desperate. :-D :-D :-D
