I live in a near north suburb of Chicago, am an avid gardener, volunteer at the Chicago Botanic Garden, and hope to start my first hive Spring '13. In the meantime, I am reading all the great stuff online, borrowing armfuls of bee books from my local library, and having a grand time learning about the marvelous world of bees. Bee people seem to be open and friendly and I hope to find someone in my area to learn from or with. :bee: :bee: :bee:

Welcome to the forum, there is plenty here a person can pick up on. You can watch videos here and on you tube. Also see if there is a local bee club, they can help.

I'm sure you'll find this forum to be an informative place to learn more about bees and beekeeping.
Joe is right - find a local bee club. Clubs often offer beginning beekeeping classes and are great places to find mentors and get connected to nearby beekeepers. Check here:
