bees are not leaving the hive
« on: April 26, 2012, 04:40:58 pm »
I got a nuc of bees(four frames) on Monday 23rd. I seen lots of activity and bees foraging they were bringing back bright orange pollen on Tuesday  now Wed and today(Thurs) no bees are leaving the hive. Is this normal? They are in a 10 frame deep with top entrance. They also have a baggie feeder with 1:1 syrup.

I bet the nuc is full of nurse bees and you are feeding them so all they need is a little pollen.

The queen was there when I brought it home.

Someone really ought to tell them that the world of Ayn Rand?s novel was not meant to be aspirational.

It is probably a little bit of weather, lower temps plus small # of bees that just got dumped into a larger space to take care of plus a low amount of forage bees.

my thoughts axactly. the nuc I hived did the same thing when the temp dropped 20 degrees three days after I hived them. I went by to check on them and nothing was moving. I got real worried, two days later temp came up and girls were doing great.
