Vent grills - telescopic lids
« on: October 06, 2015, 12:14:06 am »
Hi all,

I've always put my grills on the outside (not that I've made many) but recently have seen 3 or 4 where the grills are on the inside of the lid. Is there a right or wrong way?

Cheers in advance

Welcome to Beemaster.
Not sure what you are referring to. Maybe you could describe it a little.

I always put them on the inside but it is another example where you talk to 10 beeks and get 10 different answers. I place them on the inside for ease of cleaning when the bees block off the vents.

I know some commercial beeks also place them on the inside but I have been told that some place them on the outside; so you are not wrong which ever way you do it.

Are you referring to telescopic or migratory lids?

Inside for me, less chance of damaging the vents

I was referring to telescopic lids. To cover the vent holes, you use either mesh or steel grills and I was curious as to whether they should be on the outside of the lid or on the inside.

Thanks for the responses so far...profile updated with my location etc

Telescopic lids don't have vents.  Migratory lids do have vents.  I put mine on the outside so the spiders don't nest in the holes.
