Another Central FL new bee
« on: March 01, 2013, 10:21:42 am »
Hello Everyone.  I'm delighted to find this forum, lots of good information and generous folks.  I live in Central Florida.  I will get my first bees in mid March. I surely want to do right by the little rascals, so I appreciate this forum and the time taken by beekeepers to share experience and wisdom.

Welcome to the forum, Reefhugger.  Also check into if there is a local bee club.  I would say I get most of my info from here but a local club will also help.  Good luck

Joe

Welcome to the forum, reefhugger.  Like Joe said...find a local club if you can.  And a good mentor is worth a ton of Mel Fisher's gold. ;)

Ed

PS...update your location in your profile so we know where your located...it makes a big difference on getting help that is suited to your bees.   Beekeeping is "local". :)

PSS...I see you mentioned central Florida (I'm a slow reader)...lots of good beeks down that way.  You still might do good to get the location in your profile...saves having to type each time you ask something.

Welcome reef, are you in my neck of the woods?

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Thanks for the replies.  I'm taking Joe's advise and will stop at a nearby beekeeper's house to introduce myself.  The local hardware store assures me he's nice.  Ah small towns!  Love'em.  :-D   Scott...I'm in southern Sumter County...north of Tampa about 40 miles.  I'll get my profile updated...thanks again everyone.

reefhugger,
Welcome to the forum, it's truly a great resource.  As a newbie myself, I know it's been invaluable as both an information source, as well as a form of entertainment to feed this newfound love and addiction of mine.

Let us know how the visit with the local Beek goes.  Remember, there's no one right way of doing any of this and as you will quickly learn, everyone has there own unique ways.  While getting a mentor is great advice, I'd suggest seeking out a few.  Observe both the similarities and differences amongst them...basically be a sponge and soak up as much as you can from anyone.  Rather quickly, you will notice what methods and approaches you prefer and or more comfortable with, that along with personalities and many other variables will probably bring you closer to some mentors and further from others.  At least that's how it's been for me so far....And it's been a great ride.  And to think, it's just getting started!  :)

Gook Luck!

I think I drove through Hopelessly Lost last time I vacationed in Florida.

You must have driven through Mims when you were down. The only people who come here are "Hopelessly Lost".  :lau:

Welcome to the site Reefhugger !
