Title: How much clever are you?
Post by: abejaruco on October 07, 2006, 01:47:33 am
A Japanese tests of inteligence.

Rules are

Only two persons on the raft at a time.
The father cannot stay with any of the daughters without their mother's presence.
The mother cannot stay with any of the sons without their father's presence.
The thief (striped shirt) cannot stay with any family member if the policeman is not there.
Only the father, the mother and the policeman know how to operate the raft.

To start, click on the big blue circle on the right.
To move the people, click on them.
To move the raft, click on the pole on the opposite side of the river

Busy polieceman :)

I think there is a small flaw in the program logic because I kept getting a 'you can't do that' graphic between the mother and a son even though they were on opposite sides of the river... but I worked around it.

The program is right. If you want I can post the answer the next week, if my wife wants repeat me the solution.

That's ok, I solved it anyway.  I just thought that at one point it was enforcing a rule one step before the condition existed, but there is a way to avoid that.

Nice variation (complication) on the old 'farmer, wolf, goat, cabbage' problem.

wohooo, i never thought i'll do it. i tried so hard with this game a month ago and it just didn't go. i don't know the correct order, but i think that my hint would be good for others: Use policeman

I could not finish. I had the Mom, Dad and 1 boy (or girl) left with the raft on the other side and no way to get it back without bringing the policeman and thief back again.

try a few more times, once you get it, it starts to look childish easy

This is where I keep getting stuck. I must work it out a different way, probably...

Took me a little while, but I figured it out.

Sometimes when you pull out so much hair in the process of doing something, you have to wonder just how fun it really was :D I think the title should have been "How much patience do you have?"

Its the same type of algorithm needed for the guy who wants to get a goose, a fox and a sack of grain across the river but he can only take one thing at a time in a canoe.  Kinda fun though.  Thanks for sharing.

Pretty fun! Took a few minutes to do first time. then I agree with Mici that once you do it it is easy and simple.
I would write out the sequence but then that ruins the fun...
