Two of three cutouts done at one house
« on: May 15, 2011, 03:05:07 pm »
Got two of three colonies out of one wall of a house this past week. First one was four and a half feet from top to bottom and the second one was about seven feet! As JP likes to say, these bees were really pissy! Between the two hives, I got over 20 stings. I couldn't find the queen in either one, though. I don't know how you find them among all those thousands of bees, JP! They do seem content in their new homes, so I am pretty confident the queens are in there. Will check when this round of bad weather passes; cold and rain all week.  The third colony is higher up the wall, and I need to borrow a 34' ladder to get at them. I will post all the pics on my photobucket page when all done.

Sweet.  Nice big hives.  So is there going to be anything left of the house after you cut out the 3rd one?    Can't wait for the photos.

Actually, it's not bad. The house needs a lot of work anyway, such as new roof, trim, siding or painting etc. It has been REALLY neglected. But from the bees, no problem. I opened up the stud spaces where they were, removed them, scraped out the remaining bur comb and propolis, spraypainted and stuffed the cavity with insulation. Replaced the cut siding and caulked. Good as new(or at least as good as it was!). :-D
