The flower pot.
« on: August 11, 2007, 12:43:24 am »
In between the efforts to dodge the TSA, avoid sitting next to smelly person on the plane, and offering sacrifices to the gods of lost luggage. I do on occasion get to make brief visits home. In that time I try to do a few cut outs.

I had one that was actually pretty easy. The bees were in a flower pot. that had been on the ground upside down. They were probably a swarm from one of my hives as they were in the same neighborhood I live in. Also the comb was new and there wasn't much of it.

I figured it would be a great way to practice my looking for queens. I would also get to wear my golden knight bee suit.

So I laid out a white blanket on the lawn and with almost no smoke I took the bees and shook them onto the blanket. I must have looked through the bees for 10 minuets. Guess what I couldn't find the darn queen.

I also got to move one of my nuc hives to a medium.

Here is the url for extremely silly photos.

Brenhan, who took the pics? Thnks for sharing. I did a removal about 2 & a half weeks ago and I told the guy, after I exposed the hive in the eave, that if I didn't find the queen in this hive then I am pretty lame. Well, I must be pretty lame. Sometimes queens will just be so evasive.

Sean:

My home is never far from your neck of the woods. Some fried plantains with cinnamon butter and I am a happy camper.

JP:
My wife took the photos. I have problems finding the marked queens in my hives. Because my queens aren't much bigger than the workers. Unlike Konasdad who has mutant sized queens that are just huge and bigger than the drones.

Just to give you an idea as to how fried my traveling has got me. You may notice the PS in my orginal posts lists me in Little Rock, SC. I was actually in Rock Hill, SC. I am now in Charlette airport, I think. I am hearing them call for a passenger to board a flight to Barbados.  It wouldn't be a trip home but I think the diversion would be good. I just wonder if the ticket agent would believe I am Mary Hughes.

Sincerely,
Brendhan

Heading home for a few hours.
