Never been a fan of growing from seeds, but my little boy was excited about planting some. So we did some early plantings of various lavendar, mints, and basils.
Here is a picture my 4 year old is watching me post.... (he thinks it's neat)

Nice. My daughter likes to go buy the starter kits and lant all kinds of seeds. I had to tell her the seeds dont grow when floating on top of the water that is overflowing on the floor :shock: Anyway This year Im buying lots of clover and two different wildflower seed packets, 1/4 lbs, but they will be started outside.

I just planted some seeds with my children this past weekend.
I much prefer direct sowing just because of the ease of it but the seedlings do you give you that head start
They all have their own vegetable bed in the garden and were excited to pick out seeds and start planting so I helped them start some seedlings.
Beware, if you let your children pick out seeds you will be eating purple and orange cauliflower, rainbow(who knew they came in so many colors?) colored carrots, purple radishes,blue mashed potatoes and red french fries. Oh and lets not forget the pointy starry looking broccoli and all the funny looking squash.
Its all good though, it gets them interested in gardening and makes them eat their veggies.

What a great thing you guys are doing! I think the different types of things are great to try growing @ home! A package of seeds is wayyyyy cheaper than trying to find & PAY for the unusual! My CSA always has rainbow carrots in the fall, one thing, the purple ones are only colored on the outer part, the core is still orange. Something really pretty are striped beets, look like candy canes & are yummy sliced (so you see the stripes best)& tossed & roasted w garlic, lemon juice, zest & olive oil. The time you spend w/your kids doing stuff like this is like seeds...the thoughts, habits & feelings are planted & you & will reap the rewards for the rest of your lives, possibly the lives of your grandchildren! I'm secretly looking forward to having grandchildren. Crazy bee & cat Grammy Jo...or maybe Nannie, like my Grandmother. She is where I got the love of gardening. I so miss having young children, running the daycare was the hardest & most rewarding job I have ever done, well, besides raising my own girls! Tell your son that those are some really beautiful plants he has going there! Keep the pictures coming so we can watch the progress! J

They do grow up too fast don't they Jodi? I have kids in college now and can't believe it went by so fast.
I look at these grown women and wonder where all the time went. It sometimes breaks my heart that they are all grown and their childhoods are behind them and they are off living their lives.
I truly enjoyed raising those girls and I love being a mom. Kids are the most wonderful little souls.
Luckily for me I still have the younger kids at home, the youngest is 5 so I have alot more years of raising kids.
My 6 year old son is very into the gardening, raises chickens, he has his own and sells his eggs to his own customers and can't wait for the bees.
I am so happy that he has the same interests as me, we spend alot of time together.
I don't know what I will do with myself when they are grown, only I guess by the time the younger ones are grown I will be a grandmother.

Bjornbee. YOu got a little gardener growing alongside the seeds he has sown. Beautiful. Now just wait until he and you set those seeds to the soil, and then he watches them grow, nothing short of that miracle.
Natalie, just wait until you have Grandchildren, and you thought your life was busy now, smiling.....spring is just around that corner. Have that most wonderful and awesome day, life, health. Cindi
