Yellow in the snow around hive
« on: January 21, 2010, 04:50:08 pm »
I have 3 hives.  Haven't checked on them since late October.

Just noticed that one of the hives has yellow on top of the snow for about a 2-3 foot radius around the entrance.   Looks like they exited and did a mass poop.

Any ideas why/what this would be?

they exited and did a mass poop.

sometimes if they have been stuck in the hive for a long period of time, they will make a mess when the weather get warm for the first time.
Someone really ought to tell them that the world of Ayn Rand?s novel was not meant to be aspirational.

It only got up to 35-37F here recently.  Is it common at that temperature?

I have seen bees flying outside on sunny days no wind at 30 degrees.  you dont have alot of poo all overr the hive itself do you?  Maybe you want to peak in on them on a 37 degree day.
