Two Queenless & two Nucs
« on: April 18, 2011, 10:51:11 pm »
I have Two Hives that are queenless and broodless but  i have two nucs 3 frames busting at the seams well i want to put queens in queenless hives and wanted to know if i need to put nucs in regular hive so i can do newspaper combine or can i just take queen on a frame of bees and put in queenless hive replacing unused outside undrawn frame with queen to box side  then let nucs raise new queen or shake them in ft. of other hives

  Thanks David

Just put an empty box on newspaper over the queenless hives and add the frames from the nuc. Fill the empty spaces with foundation or drawn frames. You could also catch the nuc queens and introduce them to the queenless hives in a regular queen cage or a hardware cloth cage imbedded into a drawn frame of brood. I make these cages about 4"x5" out of #8 cloth. The advantage of giving them the nuc queens is that the nucs can then make more queens for your future use.  :-D
