It is Sphinx atropo time, again. I have observed during any clear nights, that this big moth "sings" like a queen, while is going into the hive to rob the honey.

Here, a poetic paragrahp about the reason of this song used by the moth as password.

"Upon the workers this royal cry has a magical effect. It terrifies them, it induces a kind of respectful stupor; and when the queen sends it forth, as she halts in front of the cells whose approach is denied her, the guardians who have but this moment been hustling her, pushing her back, will at once desist, and wait, with bent head, till the cry shall have ceased to resound. Indeed, some believe that it is thanks to the prestige of this cry, which the Sphinx Atropos imitates, that the latter is able to enter the hive, and gorge itself with honey, without the least molestation on the part of the bees. "

Death head moth.  Emits queen sounds and will get into the hive and eat honey.

We don't have them in the states yet.  Until some nimrod thinks they are cool and somehow they "get away".

abejaruco!!!!  You have got to be kidding!!!!  That is the most interesting thing that I have ever heard!!!!!

So, this moth emits a sound that turns the hive into statues!!!!    Hmmmmm.....Now this is such a curiosity.  Have you ever heard this song that the moth sings?  It would be so interesting to have the sound recorded. 

When the queen bee pipes, the workers oftentimes will stop whatever they are doing and remain motionless.  It is like the vibration of the queen's body in the colony paralyzes the bees and they cannot move.  That is how the queen makes the piping sound, by pressing her thorax against the comb and makes a vibration.  This vibration must be felt throughout the entire colony I guess.  Bees probably are sensitive to even the slightest movement of any sort, especially vibration.

Imagine that you are sleeping, comfortably...and suddenly a trumpet sound in your bedroom. You say: -What "carajo" is that? And you see somebody playing a trumpet. -Who are you? You ask. And somebody answers: -I am the queen.
-The queen? What queen?
-The queen...the queen of England, of course.... :roll:
Yes...you turn into statue... :-D

Have you ever heard this song that the moth sings?

Yes. I have heard it. It is interesting, I told you, an apocalyptic trumpet. I saw the moth flying around the hives, selecting one of them. The next night she came back at the same hour.

I have not killed the moth. And I think that bees can´t kill her if she is young and strong. Probably bees can kill her when she is declining. I have found dead moths in strong and weak hives.
I found 3 moths in that hive.
