I have described how I move 7-box hives to better pastures. If hive is ove 7 boxes I give one box with bees to smaller colony.
The fifth piture's hive is joined from two week colony.
See entrances in every box. Wooden boxes I have made in the year 1965 and 1966 They are 40 years old. Polystyrene boxes are since 1987.
Rape/ canola is over and I found splended fireweed areas. We have hot weather and canola missed this year. Fireweed are over 2 meters lond. Soil is clay and moist.

It is better do in the morning before bees start to fly. You just put extra bottomboard to car and pile boxes one by one. And in destination same job.
When I leave the toppmost box in old place, it gathers the bees which have gone to field in the morning. If you make the jogb in the evening, bees are angry and you cannot pile them in the place when it is dark.
One hive's weight is something 300-400 lbs.

I also thought the pictures were very interesting. In your post you mentioned that in the colonies with over 7 boxes of bees, you give one box to a smaller colony. Do you use the newspaper sheet combine or another method?

Pretty cool pictures, what is the pink flower and do bees like it. They don't move hives much here. No big crops or orchards and someting is blooming all the time. Mostly small bee yards. You have been in it a long time, like to read your posts. and M Bush too, You 2 have probably seen it all.
