We've had them for the past 12 years or so now.

Yes, they're Eastern Screech Owls.
They're so used to us that the hen will fly to the  back deck and watch us in the house sometimes.  :-D

cool, two years ago i built a screech owl house after seing one in our backyard and they only thing that moved in it were squirels.
