10 am, 29*C watching the bees come and go -only about 3 or 4 at the entrance at any given point in time but always moving - arriving or leaving with one seemingly pacing up and down watching over the proceedings. - I sort of expected more activity.
Couldn't tell where the incoming were coming from -they just appeared, but the ones leaving all headed in the same direction on identical flight paths - straight toward the National Park former State Forest on our back boundary.

I have been watching for bees around my yard for a few weeks without seeing much activity. During September there were quite a few bees collecting pollen from a Kunzia Baxterii (red bottle brush sort of tree) while ignoring jonquills, forget-me-nots and a tea tree. On the weekend, I went around the corner to a neighbor's place (probably less than 100m away in a straight line) where he has a colony of bees living in his house roof and they were all heading away towards the river pretty much away from houses and gardens etc. I'm not sure where they were all going, but they looked to be all going in the same direction. It's been wet and windy here and I found a few unopened buds from the gum trees on the ground, but no opened flowers, so I am thinking that it might not be the gum trees around the river that they are so interested in at the moment. However, the swift parrots have returned from their holidays up north so there must be some already in flower around here somewhere. It was only today that I have noticed a few bees visiting the mass of forget-me-not flowers in the backyard. It's kept me amused for hours :-D
