Moving a Hive
« on: March 21, 2008, 03:36:01 pm »
I started a new hive last spring.  I placed it in too much shade and would like to move it 20 feet so it will recieve sun earlier in the day.  Do I need to do it 3 feet at a time, or can I just move it the full 20 feet at once before the temp warms up (we are in northern michigan, temps currently 18).  Thanks

With temps that cold, just move it and they'll reorient next time it warms up (assuming that's 18 F).  If it's 18 F now, and 45 F tomorrow, put something in front of the hives to trigger a reorientation.

If it is cold and they haven't been flying in the past few day just move it. That is all you need to do. If they have been flying then put something in front.
