Bar spacing on a Warre hive
« on: January 05, 2012, 07:29:32 pm »
Hello fellow beekeepers I have a question, I was wondering  what is the space between the bars on a warre hive. I'm thinking of building one but all the plans I've found are not very clear on the spacing of the bars, any info would be appreciated.

My Warre' hives are 12" x 12" inside dimensions.  I use 8 bars (7/8" wide) evenly spaced (~9/16" between bars).   Works well and have never had any bad comb drawn.

It's the space on center that is important.  That should be between 1 1/4" and 1 1/2".  The bees prefer 1 1/4" for brood and 1 1/2" for honey...  If you do them all the same 1 3/8" would be right.
