API VAR Life and Robbing
« on: October 17, 2013, 12:27:45 pm »
I just started treating my hive with API VAR Life on Tuesday.  The bees are not happy and many more than usual hanging outside the hive.  I just saw a bunch of bees fighting so I am assuming they are being robbed.  I reduced the entrance.  The bees are pretty angry too, they stung me, which they don't usually do.   I am not feeding them.

Does API VAR life usually induce robbing?

No it doesn't but the first dose of thymol does tend to pi$$ them off.

I see the bees fighting but I don't see heavy bees leaving.

Removed the API var.  the fight was really intense.  Now maybe the bees will go back inside the hive to defend it instead of so many fighting outside.

All the bees are back in the hive tonight.  I think it will give them a better chance tomorrow.

They seem to be in control of their hive now.
