Title: Those cazy birds!
Post by: Robo on January 27, 2007, 07:35:38 pm
Went out to collect eggs tonight and found alternating guineas and chickens.   Everybody wants the top rail 8-)

Ha, now that has got to be funny.  It is the warmest spot, poor dudes left on the bottom (LOL).

I like the Guinea hens.  We have some up the road from us and I like the sound they make.  I think that I am going to explore where to get some for this year.

My sister was out today and got 5 geese.  I have had no dealings ever with geese, nor has she, so it will be an interesting experience.  There is one gander and 4 hens (is that what they are called?).  Very pretty birds and very large to boot.  Great day.  Cindi

Actually there is a heat lamp over the very bottom rail, but no one seems to be interested :?

The ones that get stuck on the bottom are probably worried about being dumped upon , if you know what I mean. LOL.  I actually bet it is an order, the ones on top feel like they are the "king of the roost".  Great day.  Cindi

That's a wonderful photo, Robo.  Chickens and bees - I'm hoping to get chickens this spring.  We're taking down more trees to make room for their run.

Nice photo. I like seeing all those barred rocks. I only have one--a pullet hatched last June.
Female geese btw are called "geese". I'll be getting some for the first time this year. I understand Buff Geese are really very calm and gentle, so I am starting with them.
I know what you mean about getting "dumped" on. It think anyone with chickens who has staggered perches does as well.
Thanks for the pic!

Thanks for the lesson on what the female geese are called.  Good to know.

The geese are really strange birds for sure and man are they loud.  There is a phenomenon that occurs with these geese.  We have muscovy ducks.  When the drake is having his way with one of his girls, the geese freak out.  They honk so loud one would think that they are being killed.  Any ideas on why they would be so noisy when this occurrence occurs?  It would be interesting to see what are thoughts on this.  Greatest of days.  Cindi
