Swarms in Florida Question
« on: November 20, 2011, 01:50:42 pm »
I would like to add to my bees and I have been contemplating putting a swarm trap in the trees along the creek behind my yard.

Is there a particular time or season for doing that in Florida, and what would increase my chances of success?

I had a swarm move into a bird house back there many years ago, so I think it would be possible, even in this crowded suburbia.  I have seen what I believe to be feral bees along the creek, but have never found a hive.

Thanks.

Wait until right before swarm season begins.  You may catch one of your swarms and you bees may attract a wild swarm.    Bait up your bait box with some old foundation or slum gum and some lemongrass oil.

Wait until right before swarm season begins.

When IS "swarm season" in this area?

Late Feb/early March.

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."
