What is it?

Here in Hawaii we mostly use screened bottom boards because of the heat. I started a new queen in a nuc with a solid bottom. I moved them from the nuc to a deep. In the bottom of the nuc was what looked like very course gray coral sand. What do you think it was? The bees in the nuc didn't seem to be doing anything but holding their own. They didn't fill out the frames. The queen was laying as much as she could. Any ideas on the sand?

"What looked Like"-- Did you feel to see if it was small bits of wax?
Bees will chew the cap off capped honey to get to the honey.
Robbing will do the same except the difference will be the cells will be torn up more if robbing took place. doak

Well, considering I don't know what gray coral sand looks like  I'd guess it to be wax cappings too, little chewed bits of wax. They aren't usually grey, though.
