New from Down under
« on: September 21, 2005, 04:26:05 am »
:D I live in Sydney Australia and have had 2 hives for  12 mths, My hives are in the backyard here, but I am looking to put 3 down at the Farm this Summer. My farm is 3 hr drive south west into the bottom end of the Blue mountains at 700 meters or 2100 feet. And yes we have so many Roo's wallabys and wombats on the farm we never have to mow the grass !  Its spring here, and my farm has had 2 snowy  freezing days this week, so a little early to move bees yet.  I'm a mum with an 18 yearold andI'm the 'farmer" my husband is the 'muscle' I'm currently trying to make more hot weather confortable and sting proof bee suit, The cotton drill currently used is hopeless, as I have a very active and aggressise hive. Any clues ?  I've enjoyed reading the posts & learnt alot. So Gadday ( no one actually says this it's movie speak ) Well see ya all round like a rissole

The best, and coolest, and most stingproff suit I've see is from Golden Bee products but they were on the outskirts of New Orleans and no one has heard from them since the storm, that I know of.  It's three layers of mesh.  The coolest and least sting proof that I have is a "bug baffler".  They have a jacket with a zip on viel, pants or a seperate stand alone veil.

It is NOT sting proof, I have been stung through it many times, but on a hot day wearing shorts and no shirt (which may not be a choice for you) it's quite the breaziest suit.  Even a bit more breazy than the Golden Bee Products suit.
