You have great info on your web site. I printed out "How to do Splits" last year and under the "Timing of Splits " I found this:

A typical split. Same as above, but you either introduce a queen you bought or you come back in four days and destroy any queen cells that are capped. These were started from larvae that are too old. Now walk away and let them raise their new queen. If you introduce a queen they will be four weeks ahead of the hive that is raising their own, so you will have to put them in a larger box than a nuc to start with.
 
I didn't find that paragraph on your site when I looked today. Is it still appropriate to consider removing the Capped Queen Cells after 4 days?

Michaels response was that he finds that the bees do just as well if we let them decide on which queen cells to choose, rather than going in 4 days after inserting a frame with eggs and larvae and destroying the CAPPED cells.

I used to destroy the capped ones at four days because that's what I was taught.  After trying not doing it I decided that the bees will destroy those anyway.  The theory has always been that they were started from larvae that is too old.

from a single frame with eggs or larva and no cell cups and then finding a capped cell in 4 days? never seen or heard of that one, now a frame with cell cups that they have already started then sure,,,, maybe I need a little more explaining of the situation!!!
