Great videos JP. How long does your average cut out take working by yourself? I know in most of your videos, it seems you are there all day with help. And do you have many bees flying at your head lamp after dark?

Allen, about four to six hours is the norm, some longer. Bees still fly to the red light but not nearly as much.

I believe this is your best video yet. That's also one of the prettiest set of combs I've seen on a feral. Nice and straight, didn't look like it had alot of burr and cross comb. She had definitely worked her way up into the overhead with the new comb on bottom looks like the ladies were getting ready to push mama back down.

The comb sections do look pretty but are long and skinny which makes for a much more time consuming transfer. I would have much preferred long and wide comb sections that ran front to back, that is an ideal situation.

JP, I noticed that you were putting three or four cuts to a frame. I bet you went through a whole box of rubber bands. I can see the time that takes. I hope they carry over that good comb buildling ability to your box. I've seen some ferals (and domestics) that looked like a crazy quilt with comb everywhere.

David McLeod brings up good detail. Where do you get those rubber bands & what size are they? Ones I'm using for deeps are snapping on me on deeps but for mediums they're ok. Used to be carried by 99cent Store but they discontinued so looking for more rubber bands more suitable for deep frames. Education as always JP & another fave added from your Youtube site. Keep em coming.
Cheers, David

I can't speak for JP but I like #64 rubber bands that I buy in the 3# pkg from office depot. #32 will work but break more often. The #64 works well for banding off your pant legs when moving bees at night too :-D

Great video JP! It's nice to see some people are getting to play with some bees. Spring is coming to Minnesota in a few weeks.

Thanks Hardwood for that info. I've been meaning to ask that exact question... I did manage to pickup a pack of Office Depot #32 last week when I went there to get some ink. Guess I need to check on the #64's as well.

Fantastic JP, got one across the street & stocking up manana. Got a lead of a horse stable near to Santa Anita that has bees near stall & supposedly been there for years. Rubber bands will be used for all the brood I can strap in. Merci beaucoup yet again.

Very nice video JP.
Do you save any of the comb from the bottom that was going in the can?
I don't know if you have time to deal with it with all the removals that you do, but I wonder if you could toss it into a solar wax melter and save the wax.
Just a thought.
It might be more of a hassle than its worth.
Thanks for sharing the video with us!
