Took a Class Last Weekend - Got the Bug
« on: November 13, 2015, 04:20:50 pm »
I have been researching bees for the past month and took a class last weekend.  Looking forward to getting a hive or 2 when I move to PA in the next couple of years.  Currently live in a subdivision in San Antonio, TX, don't think the neighbors would appreciate a hive.

Get them now. just don't tell the neighbors. Then wen thwr flowers bust out in blooms just a mile.
Laws now a days let people  have bees in subdivisions. Check out local codes.

Put a fence around them so the bees fly UP and over peoples heads, they will likely never know they are there.. Garage roof, porch roof etc works as well.

It's a lot more reasonable to keep hives in a suburban backyard then you think. The important thing is anticipating a conversation with neighbors and pointing the entrance in a direction that won't cause attention.

I never tell the neighbors.  By the time they figure it out the hive has been there a year and nothing bad that they would have imagined has happened.  Telling them is like telling them a Martian is moving in with you.  They can't imagine what it means.

welcome.  Like others have stated check the city ordinances and the home owners association if you are in one.  I have 3 in my back yard up here in north Texas.
