Having been a wood worker for over 25 years, and knowing what tools that I use the most, the first major wood cutting tool that I would buy is a Craftsman bandsaw. The one that has a large fixed table top and the blade pivots. I use the band saw more than any of the other saws in my shop. It removes a lot less wood per cut than the other tools that use a circular blade. This saves a lot of wood especially during ripping. My wife bought me one when I first started and there have been times where I have used it almost every day. I'm on my second motor. I used to do a lot of ripping of 4" oak and black walnut and wore out the first one. I was making Navy retirement shadow boxes, 25 at a time. Get the one with the largest motor that you can.
The one thing it doesn't do is cut the dado cuts, if you are planning on dadoing your supers. Be careful with what ever you get.

i have the same one as JP and i do like it. however, for crosscuts on larger than say a 1 x 6 or 1 x 8 it's a bit of a pain so i use a circular saw for those. if you wanted to make cabinets or something fancy this saw is probably not gonna cut it ( no pun intended ) but it does cut pretty well for a small saw and you can't beat the price.

If they increased energy bill for your home by a factor of 4.5 would you consider that cruel? If so why are you doing that to your bees?

To Adamant,

Have you had a chance to try your new saw yet?  I bought a compound miter saw from Dewalt and it works great for making Warre hives.

I have a DeWalt 745 and in my opinion, it's the best portable table saw on the market today.
