Paper barked tea tree - East Qld
« on: July 09, 2013, 11:47:31 pm »
Is anyone having trouble this year with the paper barked tea tree not producing loads of nectar this year ?
It has been flowering here in Central Queensland for the last month or so, but there is not a lot of nectar in it.. does anyone know if it is a random producer from year to year? I got a good crop from it last year.....  :-\

Not a 100% sure which tea tree you are referring to but if it is the Melaleuca spp. then generally they are a good supplier of winter honey. The nectar is easy washed out so if you have been having rainy weather similar to what we have been having than it is quiet likely that the nectar is being washed out before the bees can gather it in.

Yeah we had a couple of showers last week, but we have also had heavy fog and a real heavy dew as well.
Hopefully it will pick up again before it finishes...... :-\
