Philadelphia Flower Show (2009) and Bees
« on: March 03, 2009, 12:22:03 am »
Despite 10 inches of snow I still managed to get over to the Philadelphia Flower Show. (Those bastards had the nerve to sell ice cream too!) As you can imagen there were flowers all over the place and it all looked great. One might ask where are the bees... not that they'd find any pollen or nectar in any of the plants there, almost all of them there are genetically altered not to. So I'm walking and walking and then I find... Oh someone did bring the bees!

The one hive was setup as a life sized training tool. I was impressed with it.

There was also a one frame observation hive setup inside a log but I wasn't at all impressed with this either.

Inside was setup in a very nice display. Though of course it could have been improved.

For a show exhibit though I loved everything about it. There wasn't a real emphasis on flowers, which was surprisingly refreshing at a flower show.

Because I have so many pictures from the show I'll be posting them in a different thread.

Do you know who set up the display?

Thank you for the pics.

A brochure I got from them says presented by The DCTS Landscape Program and The Chester County Beekeepers Association.

Great pictures! I loved the beehive display that showed the inside of the super.
