Tears? heheh.. I have two outside cats that follow me abut to the hives. They BOTH learned the hard way not to try to catch, or play with the bees...  It is humerous when they jump seven feet straight up and land running..  Only took once each. We all get along fine now.

Tears of laughter most likely. M E O W!     ZOOOOM!
Quite difficult matters can be explained even to a slow-witted man, if only he has not already adopted a wrong opinion about them; but the simplest things cannot be made clear even to a very intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he already knows, and knows indubitably, the truth of the matter under consideration. -Leo Tolstoy

We got one that follows me everywhere also,Sits on the work bench, sawing, drilling, even mowing the lawn does not phase it.

Take the dogs for walks and the cat follows us and have to make sure it's not in the car because a couple of times driving down the road
the cat popped up from the back seat.

It was a stray that just showed up.

I have 2 cats at the farm. If I do not make sure to keep them in the garage when I go out hunting,  even before sun rise, they will follow me all the way to the tree stand and play around at the base of the tree the whole time I am in the stand.
I have never seen them pay any attention to my hives, probably learned their lesson when I was not around.
The first year the I got my bees, I saw our service dog, Radar, sniff the hive entrance, only once, pulled his nose right away but showed no sign of being stung. He never did it again.
