Title: JP And Jordan Work Bees
Post by: JP on October 13, 2010, 11:14:16 pm
I set up a young couple with hives about three years ago.

They travel a good bit and since then moved three times.

Jordan is the bee keeper and tends to the bees, ducks, chickens, rabbits and even the occasional pig or two.

She and I worked her bees today and I boosted two colonies giving them three strong ones.

Well that was really nice JP. Helped out your friends. Yes, when I do a combine, I use one sheet of newspaper and also spray the newspaper with sugar water. It has worked out so far.

Thanks for sharing

AHA! I'm on to you now Bro...you seem to help out the cute girls an awful lot!

Beautiful job fixing that brood comb (parking lot bees) into frames...it'd be hard to squeak a heavy atom between 'em.

Scott

By the way, golden rain tree is a strong flow for me.

Replacement for Schawee?

Great video, good to see a newspaper combine.

Forgot, did you leave the newspaper hanging outside the box or did you tear if off?  I tear mine off to keep water from getting in the hive if it rains.

good video. i have to say, she is much cuter than schawee ( no offense meant, schawee ) i liked the ducks too.

one question, why do you spray the newspaper with suger water ? is it to attract  both sets of bees to the center and kind of mingle their scents  ? and do you put any cuts in the newspaper when you do the combine or no ? ok, i guess that's two questions.

I spray with sugar water, make slits in the newspaper and smoke both boxes. I believe all this helps, works for me.

Sugar water is more of a feed them and make them happy thing and as they are feeding they are working towards each other.

Sounds like someone's got a crush!  :-D

Jordan happened to call me about about ten days ago to say how well all three colonies were doing and that they were going out of town for about three weeks.

I'll be sure to pass along your request to her Tommy.

Merry Christmas!
