Title: Big Hive In Garage Wall
Post by: JP on March 16, 2012, 09:23:40 am
I believe the first video I made with my Cannon was a swarm caught from this colony. Two doors down across from a school yard! Here's that video: Swarm Catch (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoSSdOblbgQ#ws)

Here is the footage taken yesterday: Big Hive In Garage Wall (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKm1NskeTEQ#ws)

I promise this is a good hive even though I took about 20-25 stings.

The new vac was sent to me to put through the ringer. Nice fellow designed it. Honored to test it. There's a lot to like about it but some tweaking is definitely in order. Will give more feedback as changes are made.

"Wish I had your day job."

Me too.  I need my day job to support my bee habit.

Nice job JP.

Is it just me or does JP look a lot younger in the new video than the first one?

The man who designed it sent it to me to test out. After testing it out it was apparent that some changes needed to be made. He is now redesigning the vac & going with a more typical box style design. This gentleman is great to work with & I'm sure he will come up with a terrific product. Will keep you all posted!

You got a haircut.  If you are like me you only get 4 a year and just let it grow between

WOw JP

That colony looks massive.  Great job and thanks for sharing and showing...  One question.  Lots of long vertical comb...When strapping the comb into frames, do you keep the orientation vertical or did you strap it in long ways?

In my keep it simple approach I would want to take advantage of the nice easy fit by turning the comb horizontal, but something tells me that's not right.  Just wondering how a pro would do it!?

Thanks!

John

That's about right Jack. When I was younger I needed my hair cut every three weeks, now its like every three months!  :-D

John, its more work but I transfer them the same way directionally. It makes more sense to the bees.
