Why Men Shouldn't Write an Advice Column
« on: December 24, 2009, 09:08:51 am »
Here is an example from the advice column "Dear John":

Dear John:

I hope you can help me. The other day I set off for work, leaving my husband in the house watching TV. My car stalled and then it broke down about a mile down the road so I had to walk back to get my husband's help.

When I got home, I could not believe my eyes; he was in our bedroom with the neighbor's 20-year-old daughter. I am 32 and my husband is 34. We have been married for ten years. When I confronted him, he broke down and admitted they'd been having an affair for the past six months. He won't go to counseling and I'm afraid I am a wreck and need advice urgently. Can you help me please?

Sincerely, Sheila

He writes:

Dear Sheila,

A car stalling after being driven a short distance can be caused by a variety of faults. Start by checking that there is no debris in the fuel line. If it is clear, check the vacuum pipe and the hoses on the intake manifold and also check all grounding wires. If none of these approaches solves the problem, it could be the fuel pump.

I hope this helps,

John

I can see where there may be a fly in the soup of given, information. He forgot to mention that if these do not solve the problem that she should have the ignition module checked.

If you do get it started put a can of dry gas in it.  Tony

Oh, and if you are in the snow belt, make sure to keep a pair of boots and warm clothes in the car, a mile or more can be very chilly.

I hope she was able to get her car fixed with the advice she was given.  A broken down car can be very stressful.  No wonder she was such a wreck.

You guys really disturb me with this post. I am offended that you are making fun of such a serious topic, something that could break a marriage apart, after all..........................

Since reading this post again, I think the advice might be wrong.  Lets see, car stalls after a mile and its a woman driver... lets see maybe she should check and see if their is gas in the tank...

In the cited situation it is far more likely the husband would be the one getting fixed 1st, where upon he would then have plenty of time to fix the car.
