SHB at tree from last week's trap-out
« on: April 01, 2012, 10:47:40 pm »
I went to examine the status of last week's trap-out last evening...

There are minimal bees exiting the tree (I was there about 30 minutes, and saw 2-3 bees exit - but it was near dusk - so may not be a good indicator).  And the bees that were flying - were going straight to my nuc box.  Anyway - While examining the activity - I noticed a small hive beetle. crawling on the outside of the mesh/netting - then up onto my nuc and into the entrance.

I've not had any problems with SHB in my current hive - and sure don't want to bring any SHB into my yard.  I plan on probably bringing the trap-out to my bee-yard on next Wednesday evening.  Is there anything I need to do to prevent the SHB from coming along?  Or just deal with it and encourage the bees to be as prolific as they can so that they are a strong hive?
