When is the best time to move your Hives?

I'm going to expand from 3 hives to 6 next year and where the place I'm in now is barely enough room for the three I have.

If the automobile had followed the same development cycle as the computer, a Rolls-Royce would today cost $100, get a million miles per gallon, and explode once a year, killing everyone inside.

Most of the time I like moving my bees after dark. If you already have a outyard you could move them there and make your splits at that location at the same time.
