new comb for old
« on: October 20, 2005, 01:09:32 pm »
If I take the real old combs that are filled with uncapped honey and put an inner cover between them and the hive will they move the honey into new combs that have been put in place of them in the hive? I would like to get rid of a lot of the old comb which is on plastic foundation and I was thinking this might be a way to deal with changing it out. If this would work it might be a way to change over to smaller hive bodies, maybe?

Usually bees move the honey inside the hive. Idea is Ok. You will se it. If upper box is a litle bit cold, bees think that honey is outside.

If nothing happens, and you have not other hives near  your yard, you may take a box with bees and put it 30 feets away. Soon bees start to rob the box  and it will be empty at evening.
