here in texas it's already hot! is there a downside to filling my top feeder with water so the ladies can have a water source at hand?

I am not sure about the top feeder as a waterer but we had beekeepers (during our drought ,two years ago) put plastic bowls, filled/packed them with pinestraw and then pour in water placed them on the top super with a empty super around it... It seemed to work for them..

you would place the hive top back as normal! I guess I didn't do a very good job of explaining it.
