I used to have a couple of these with hives on them.  Worked pretty well.  You can sometimes pick these up at farm sales pretty cheap.   Not very portable, but fun to watch a hive grow.

How'd you use that scale? Just for frames? The whole hive?

I used them on the whole hive.  Just hook the end to the back handle and lift.
