When I have bought from south queens, they have had good features and bad features. Their wintering schedule is often what ever and the hives risk their life when they wake up too early.
But I may get good genes from distant stocks. Who knows.
I bought from Cyprus 4 Superbee queens. They arrived at the end of May and they have not time to lay that they show their abilities in same summer.Roger White sells much queens to Britain.
All 4 queen were changed during the summer. It is normal happening to queens which have transported by plain.
This summer I had daughters of those queens and my Italians had got genes too from those superbee drones.
- - Hives started to winter normally. No extra brood rearing in autumn.
- In Spring they want top forage water what ever the weathers was. They had lots of brood when local bees were in deep winter sleep.
- Daughters were not good layers. One box was enough. Hives were small.
- workers are big size
- they carry huge loads
- they are swarmy because their natural instinct genes has been healed
- not bad tempered
- they woke up to lay too early in Spring. Elgon bees were the same some years ago
they do not mind about weathers. Dead rate is big during snow cover. Only lack of pollen stops them.
3 generation- hybrid vigour pops up
- Queens are like elephants
- some lay 4 boxes. I did not had such layers. Something has happened in genepool.
- swarm queen lays in one week one and half boxes.
-if I have a swarm or false swarm, all honey goes to rearing larvae
Some wrote that in swarm hive all bees concentrate to forage!!!- Who then feed the larvae which fill the whole hive?
