I hate news articles like that. All it does is set fear of bees in people. Yes, it's true that bees can be dangerous, but not if you use a small amount of sense. You don't have to go into panic mode and go call a pest control person. (sigh)
Bees are protective of their hive, mostly because of the queen/brood/honey. But if you get near the hive, they'll give you plenty of warnings to back off. These "attack" stories are very rare, and take extra ordinary circustances to make the bees get in this kind of unstoppable frenzy - enough to kill two dogs.
The ONLY time my bees were that mad was when one of them swarmed, and my husband collected up the swarm. He wore the bee suit, and used his gloved hands to "scoop" the bees into a hive body. His gloves had so many stings it was hard to count them all. It had to be 60-100 stings, at least that. That very well could be enough stings, if directly in the skin, to kill a dog/elderly person/or child, and put any adult in the hospital.
But this fear of bees makes me upset.
