Late Splitts?
« on: July 27, 2008, 05:18:14 pm »
How late is too late to do a split. I wanted to do some splits and requeen them, but its gonna be winter or at least fall here in six weeks, I don't know how well my strong hives will winter. Let alone a new split? Would it be best to wait till spring and split out then. and hope for the summer to last long enough for a good build up.?

Around here, with a laying queen (not a walk away split) right now is about the cut off to have any hope of building a nuc up enough to winter as a nuc.  In other words as five deep frames or eight medium frames of bees and honey.
